Sophia loves her brother!

I've been busy :-)

Hi there. Well, it's been a long time since we (I) updated the blog. Since the last update, our son, Nathaniel Robert Kaplan, was born. He came on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 22nd. He was 19.5" long and 7lbs 5.5oz. It's been a very busy time for us. Sophia loves her little brother and he loves her. It is apparent because sometimes she is the only one who can make him laugh. Nate is a good sleeper and a happy baby. He is 4.5 months old and starting to be less than content to not be involved. He tries to sit up...grunting in a seemingly painful "crunch" position. Alas, he cannot sit up, but he does rip some doozy farts trying! Just like his dad.....

Stay tuned for more updates. I will be posting pics and vids of the fam. All is well. Spring is upon us and we are busy planning a fun filled summer.

STILL NO BABY

Megan NEEDS to have this baby. I NEED her to have the baby, too.

Nana Kaplan flew in last night and is going to be in town for a couple of weeks. We're so glad she is here and Sophia is beside herself -- she's showing off and talking Nana's ear off. Today we are going to make a run to the big city (Salem) to go to Costco. We need pies, big pies....word is that Costco has big pies. I also would like to get a 50 lb bag of peanuts and a one year supply of pepperoni. Maybe I'll even pick up an animatronic reindeer for the front yard that plays "Deck the Halls". Gotta love Costco.

We can't wait for Thanksgiving. My hope is that Megan will go into labor right after the meal. We're going to be at Matt, Mere, and Owen Eggert's house in Wilsonville. Matt is making a feast this year - I think I'll stop eating today so I can eat until I pass out.

Preg Meg update

Hi there. Just an update for you all:

We went into the hospital on Monday night. Megan was having very bad pain in her abdomen that was not related to contractions and she had not felt the baby move in several hours - she had also thrown up a few times. They put her on a monitor and the baby was/is fine. Heartbeat was great, etc. Once Megan got comfortable on the bed, she starting contracting. She was dilated 1 CM. They had us walk around the hospital for an hour. During that time Megan got sick and threw up :-(. When we got back, she was 2 CM. We were thinking this was the day. They put her on an I.V. to rule out dehydration as the cause of the contractions. Seems she may have been dehydrated from throwing up throughout the day. Her contractions spaced out and dilation stopped. They sent us home. Since then, Meg has been feeling horrible. She has all the signs of being in early labor, but who knows? I'll keep you updated.

Illini Hangover

Happy Sunday to everyone reading the Kaplan BLOG. I think the state where the University of Illinois is most appreciated, other than in Illinois, is Oregon. My neighbors all watched Illinois play yesterday. They hoped and prayed that David could beat Goliath. Man, what a game. I don't remember a college football game outcome that so drastically changed the BCS outlook. I'll take this opportunity to mention that the BCS system is silly. There needs to be a playoff. I'll rant about that another time -- since this is a family blog...:-)

Sophia watched the beginning of the game with me. She said, with much enthusiasm, "TOUCHDOWN" when the Buckeyes scored on their opening drive. Someday she'll understand better who the good guys are. For now, it tickles me that she loves to watch football. After the game, we called Nana and Bapa Kaplan and Sophia left a spirited message "Go Illini". Love it.

Megan and I went out last night for dinner. Sophia stayed home with Grammy Wada. They watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Wizard of Oz. Apparently, Sophia enjoyed them both, but was a little scared of the wicked witch. Meg and I think that is appropriate as we are both still scared of her, too. Anyway, Meg had regular, strong contractions at the restaurant. We got concerned that labor was imminent, but the contractions faded as Megan ate her loaded potato skins. Mmmmmm. Yum. I ate some too. I think Nate will be joining us soon. We'll keep you posted.

Kaplans conquer Halloween

Ok, so I am updating the blog again. Since I updated it yesterday, there is nothing new to report, really. We had some friends over for dinner last night. They have a 7 month old named Aribella. Sophia loved playing with her. Sometimes, though, Sophia plays "at" other kids. Just ask Owen, her year old cousin. She has roughed him up more than once...luckily he is getting old enough to defend himself. Anyway, she enjoyed Aribella's company. She calls her "Bellalella".

Sophia enjoyed her rooster costume. She also enjoyed her very 1st Snickers bar. It was snack size and took her an hour to eat. Now she knows about candy. Uh oh.
