country living

Dan snapped these photos on the way to daycare last week.

I thought they were sweet.

wild thing

Sophia loved books from day 1 (no kidding).
I would lay with her on our bed and read Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book cover to cover.
She never got restless.
She never tried to eat the book as we read it.
She would inevitably fall asleep somewhere toward to the end.

Her little brother is a totally different story.
Getting him to sit still for a book during his first year of life was, well, nearly impossible.

But...
Our little non-reader is way into reading these days.
His new favorite is very fitting.

Our little wild thing.

We read Goodnight Moon tonight.
He got a kick out of the two little kittens.
He's also an animal lover, but that's another story.

valentine's day - part 2

Uh, so, Dan spoiled me.
Big time.

More importantly...
We had a relaxing, fun day out.
We started with coffee and pasties.
We shopped...a lot.
We ate at one of our favorite places (California Pizza Kitchen).
We just had a great day.
Just the two of us.
Together.
Forever.

nana & bapa

We had a wonderful visit with Nana & Bapa this past weekend.
We drank wine.
We ate ice cream.
We shopped.
We relaxed.
We laughed and then laughed some more.
Truly, a perfect weekend.
We miss them already.

a girl and her bike

Sophia is officially riding a big girl bike!
She's a pro.
She loves it.
We're all ready for Summer.

valentine's day - part 1

Dan surprised me with a few sweet gifts tonight! I've never had a 2-part Valentine's Day!

Sophia (Daddy's girl) didn't do too bad herself.

doin' what they do

While Sophia wrote love letters to her friends this evening...

...her brother was hard at work making a serious mess.

the bug

Uh oh. I think I've caught it. It's been a while so I just knew I was due. Nope, not that bug (thank goodness). The home improvement bug! Now...where to start?

Think our kitchen could end up looking like this one?

Or, how about this for the kids' bathroom?

Ok, so maybe I'll start by painting the laundry room with some leftover green from Nate's room instead. Probably more budget friendly, eh?

v-day crush

Sophia: Mom, what are you looking at?

Me: I'm just checking my e-mail and looking at the internet.

Sophia: Oh, can you try to find a picture of Barack Obama?

Me: Sure, I think I can do that...

Sophia: He's the President of our United States and I love him.

duh

Since when did 3-year-olds start saying "duh" when they are annoyed with your lack of understanding? Sophia came home last week saying it. I have officially experienced my first glimpse into her teenage years.

ice cream!

What better way to spend a cold, cloudy sunday afternoon?

muffin tin tuesday?

Well, Sophia asked (begged) for Muffin Tin Tuesday tonight and, because it was our house cleaning night, I happily obliged. Unfortunately, I desperately need to do some grocery shopping so there are some repeats from last night.

Top: pepperoni, sugar snap peas, turkey dog, peach yogurt
Middle: organic cereal bar. mushrooms, cheddar cheese, tomatoes
Bottom: clementine oranges, multi-grain pasta, edamame, organic oatmeal cookies

Tomorrow we will sit down at the table and eat a "real" meal off "real" plates.

muffin tin monday

Top row: edamame, mushrooms, hummus, clementine oranges
Middle row: tomatoes, multi-grain pasta, cheese, yogurt
Bottom row: vegetable crackers, pepperoni, turkey, grapes

This is what the kids had for dinner tonight and it was a hit! I got the idea from a mommy blog that I frequent. Sophia helped me prepare everything and her dinner blues soon turned to pure excitement. Both kids ate really well and it was fun for all. Just a little way to spice things up!
